Ultraviolet Light Water Treatment Kills Bacteria
Ultraviolet light water treatment is part of a new innovation in purifying
water. Ultraviolet radiation has long since been recognized for its qualities of
heating, treating skin conditions (such as jaundice), tanning (such as the UV
lamps in tanning salons), sterilization and more. As it turns out, ultraviolet
radiation also affects chemicals and other biological contaminants in the water
supply.
New water purification systems use a UV sterilization lamp for water as part of the
treatment process. House wide UV methods and point of access UV lights are
available. This trend in water sterilization continues to grow in popularity for
businesses, homes and retail.
Puritec has developed several different types of UV lamp sterilization systems.
Because safe water is ideal for everyone, using sunlight rather than chemicals
to purify another natural substance such as water seems a lot more natural than
dumping in another set of chemicals to treat the supply. The rays from the sun
contain ultraviolet radiation. By using a much lower intensity or frequency of
this form of light Puritec is able to perform sterilization.
The different UV lamp water treatment systems offered by Puritec offer a greater
than 99.99% kill rate on various microorganisms including E. coli, salmonella
and coliform. While the ultraviolet light system is excellent for removing
microorganisms and sterilizing the supply, they do not eliminate sediments such
as iron that can affect taste and odor. Puritec's systems can be used alone or
in conjunction with a whole
house water filter designed to remove sediments from a household's supply.
Innovations such as treatment using UV lights continue to expand the repertoire
of knowledge on water purification systems. It is important to keep in mind that
while the cost of installation of a UV sterilization lamp is not high, it is
only effective against bacteria and microorganisms. Sedimentary problems causing
taste and odor issues have to be resolved with a drinking water filtration
system or reverse osmosis purification systems.
