Iron Water Filters For Wells
Iron water filters remove the most common contaminant in drinking water systems
whether well or city-based. Sediment taken from wells that contain iron usually
comes in two forms: ferric and ferrous. The ferrous variety is the dissolved
iron that causes a nasty metallic taste as well as stains on the fixtures in the
kitchen and bathroom. The orange stains found around the drains and sides of
bathtubs and showers are usually a result of ferrous iron in the well or
municipal supply.
Ferric iron is solid and, like rust, it can be removed with sediment drinking
water filters. The problem with filters that remove both ferric and ferrous
solids and other pollutants is the expense. A
whole house water filter system is
expensive and requires a great deal of user maintenance.
Sediment filtration systems are designed for residential use and remove ferrous
and ferric iron as well as manganese and hydrogen sulfide. Hydrogen sulfide is
the nasty smell of rotten eggs. Water that smells like rotten eggs is definitely
unappealing and unsuitable for drinking. As opposed to having to mess with
chemicals or backwashing, such a system is very practical requiring only a
cartridge change.
Sediment filters should make drinking water pleasant and healthy. While the
rotten egg smell or odor is not necessarily dangerous, it is very unpleasant.
This contamination can cause problems with more than just stains on the laundry
and fixtures; it can cause health problems depending on the levels of iron in
the water. The bottled water industry is booming, filtration systems are
becoming standard in refrigerators with water dispensers and many new homes are
being built with filtration systems pre-installed.
Investigating the claims of different sediment water filters whether designed to
remove iron, bacteria, viruses, or simply to improve the quality of the taste
can take time. Investing in clean, healthy water now can prevent damage to
house, home and health later. Even though the industry continues to boom into
the multi-millions, the marketing strategy carries a ring of truth. Consumer
health is worth more than a few dollars invested in a
drinking water
purification system.
