Benefits of an Ultraviolet Light Water Purifier
An ultraviolet light
water purifier uses UV light to kill harmful bacteria and other
microorganisms. One of the criticisms of this method is that it doesn’t remove
particles, but only kills organic contaminants. For this reason, other methods
are used along with ultraviolet radiation to purify and remove particles. The
most effective water purification
system is the 3 stage filter. Because it is
so efficient, the UV purifier is used to treat water in medical
facilities.
A 3 stage UV water filter consists of three separate cartridges. The first stage
is a sediment filter. This removes dirt and larger particles from the water
before it enters the ultraviolet purifier. The water is then passed through a
carbon filter containing carbon granules to remove chlorine and other chemicals.
Once this is completed and the liquid is sent through the UV light, it is put
through a block carbon filter to remove any residual chlorine.
These filters will need to be changed regularly to keep all 3 stages of the
purifier working well. The sediment water filter cartridges
will need to be changed about every six months. If your supply contains heavy
sediment, this may need to be done every three months. The carbon needs to be
changed about once each year. The UV light system requires no other maintenance.
Eventually the bulb inside will need to be replaced. Many systems have an
audible warning signal to let you know when there is a problem with the
ultraviolet bulb.
Ultraviolet light purifiers are the most effective method for killing
microorganisms. The UV light kills the bacteria, virus and molds that exist in
many homes and are known to cause illness in thousands every year. You have a
choice between systems that treat one sink or the whole house. 3 stage filters
take drinking water
purification a step further by removing harmful chlorine and other particles
and chemicals from your supply.
