Purchasing and Installing Under Counter Water Filters
Under counter water
filters are the least expensive of all filtration systems. They are also
the easiest systems to install. While the installation process can vary slightly
among under sink filter models, most work in about the same way. Follow the
manufacturer’s directions for detailed instructions on how to install your
specific model. You will need an adjustable wrench and a pipe cutter to do the
job right.
You may want to purchase a filtration system for under the counter, but wonder
how to install an under sink
water filter. The process is relatively simple and can normally be completed
in about an hour. Most models come with detailed instructions and all the
fittings and connectors needed to do the job. If for some reason the fittings
aren’t included, they are cheap and can be purchased at any hardware store or
home improvement center.
Once you know how to install the filter under the sink it’s easy to connect the
feed line to the cold water line. After you run the hot water, you can feel the
pipes to determine which side is cold. The hot supply line will be warm to the
touch. Be sure to turn off your supply for the installation process. You will
need to attach the mounting brackets to the inside of the counter cabinet and
then mount the filter to the bracket. Connect all the fittings and check to be
sure everything is connected tightly before turning the water on.
Once you install the filtration system under your sink, maintenance is easy.
Depending on the system you choose, there may be up to four separate filters.
You will need to change these periodically to keep your water clear. Replacement
cartridges for under counter filters are inexpensive and easy to find on the
internet. Some models have an indicator that lets you know when the water filter
needs to be changed. Otherwise, you will need to keep track of it yourself on a
calendar.
