UV Water Purification: An Innovation in Water Treatment
There are several innovative products available to help you purify your water.
UV water purification is one such product. While many people choose
between purification systems such as reverse osmosis and carbon filters, you are
not limited to these. The ultraviolet light water purification system may
have only been around a short time, but ultraviolet light occurs naturally. This
system offers some great features that make it promising as a water purification
system in the industry.
Ultraviolet radiation is best known for its ability to produce heat, such as
when you are cooking a meal or the heat from the sun. The same effect UV light
has in these situations is the reason it is effective as a water purifier. The
purifier, which acts quite similar to a lamp, emits rays of UV radiation into
the water being treated. Most contaminants are “zapped” and are immediately
destroyed. A water filtration system based on ultraviolet light is composed of a
single unit with two inlets, one for intake and the other for water outtake.
The greatest advantage that UV lights have over other types of filters is its
ability to completely eliminate the culprits that create the need for a
purifier. With other popular purification systems, the water is only separating
the “good” and “bad” so that the bad can be flushed down the drain. With these
types of purification systems there is the possibility of some of the impurities
remaining. Another advantage of UV lights is that it is inexpensive. You can
expect to pay as little as $500 for the unit initially. This cost may be higher
or lower depending on the amount of water that is used in your home on a monthly
basis. On average, each person in an average household in the United States uses
about 30 - 100 gallons per day. A basic 110V purifier would be sufficient for
most households. You typically will not have to replace the lamp in less than a
year. The ultraviolet light mounts easily on a wall. The only plumbing necessary
will be for the intake and outlet pipes.
