Evaluating Your Water Filtration System Needs
Do you need to invest in a drinking water filtration system or purifier to treat
your municipal water supply? If you are moving into a new home consider doing
some research into whether or not you need additional filtration or purification
of your municipal supply. If the residential area in which you plan to move is
in the city, you may not have considered testing your water an important task
since there are laws in place that require that the quality of residential
communities meet certain standards. However, these standards generally require
that water is safe only.
Before you run out and invest in a kit that enables you to test your water, or
hire someone to do it for you, you should perform an initial self-test to check
to see if such a test is necessary. This is just a matter of inspecting a glass
that flows from faucets such as the kitchen and bathroom sinks. When you inspect
the purity of residential water, do you see particles floating? How does it
smell? What about the taste? Near the faucets, are there rust stains or any
other type of discoloration? These are all important questions to help you
determine if you need an additional filtration system such as a
residential
water purifier.
Once you perform a preliminary test on your water to see if you need a
purification system, you may or may not need a further test to discover exactly
what is in your municipal supply. You can purchase a test kit yourself from any
store that sells residential products, or you can hire someone who is certified
by your state to conduct the test for you. The main impurities that may exist in
your water and that a residential filtration system can handle include sediment
(dirt or silt), zinc, lead, copper, mercury, or chlorine. If any sediment is
found in your water, a whole house filtration system is probably the best
choice. For the other types of impurities you basically need a water filter that
removes the impurities. There are different types of filters that are different
only in the style. The main choices include under
sink, counter top, shower and
whole house water filters, and
the pitcher. For each style of
filter you will need to determine which one you prefer to use as a purifier.
